Tin manufacturing can be dated as far back as 3500BC. Tin has always been sought after for its amazing property to withstand corrosion. In Turkey early metalworkers discovered a use for tin that when mixed with copper they would get bronze. This of course was the beginning of the Bronze Age.

The first stage of the manufacturing process has the tin extracted from the earth as ore. These deposits are not composed of a large amount of tin so many pockets of ore must be mined simultaneously to make the mining expeditions worthwhile.

Water is the key element in refining the tin ore. Water is used to break the tin composites from the earth and washed and clean. Once broken away, the ore is collected. Next the ore is weighed and calculated exactly how much the ore weighs as it is sent on to the smelting process. Within a furnace, the tin is combined with coal. Heated at a sweltering 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, the carbon is burned to become carbon monoxide and the carbon monoxide reacts with the tin. This is the way that tin ore is manufactured into crude tin.

Next the crude tin needs to be refined. Moved from the smelting pots, the crude tin is placed in a cooling furnace. This process is called liquidation, which removes the impurities from the tin and other metals. Once cooled and made pure of anything non-tin, the metal is moved to a boiling cauldron. This will melt the tin and leave it almost 99.9 percent pure. This isn't the purest form of tin, with the aid of electrophoresis, the tin can be made 100 percent pure but very rarely does this extra step ever come into play.  Now the melted liquid tin is refined into bars. This is done by pouring the boiled metal into cast of desired size and shape. These bars are then shipped to other companies and users for various projects.

What others can produce with these bars can very well vary greatly. In recent years there has been an ever growing demand for refined tin. As the metal and mining industry grows, the demand for tin becomes even greater. The metal has no deadly effect on the environment or human beings. In time it is expected to replace such popular metals like lead and mercury which are more dangerous. Tin manufacturing is only on the rise.
