Grandpa, were there really Black people in America?

Yes, little Susie, there used to be Black people in America.  What happened Grandpa?  Well, they became extinct.  Why Grandpa, because of a natural disaster?  Well, it was a disaster alright, but it was far from natural.  How then Grandpa did they all die?  It was more self-inflicted.  That's sad Grandpa. Yes, it is little Susie.

How is it that a people who survived the slave commerce of the middle passage, who survived the appalling institution of slavery, who survived the inhumane practices of the "Jim Crow" south and the general inequalities of the north.  All this they survived, only to succumb to the plague of self-destruction.

That plague of self-destruction is Crime which has so metastasized throughout the Black community that the larger society has given up trying to treat the cause with rehabilitation in mind.  It is now treated through isolation, amputation, and annihilation.  Much like a cancer cell that goes haywire and starts to multiply exponentially the only remedy is to excise the resulting tumor before it becomes inoperable.  That's what most societies have learned to do before they become extinct.  They proscribe the offender, Isolate (imprison) the problem before it infects the entire community and if that doesn't work the ultimate elimination of the problem.  The Black community, however, is in perpetual analysis explaining the birth of the problem.  And it is this very analysis paralysis that is destroying the community.

The time to act is now because the problem is too acute.   The remedy is for the Black community to return to the disciplines of the World War II generation.  We need to drag our kids, kicking and screaming if necessary, back to the Church which has always been the nucleus of the community.  I don't advocate this for religious reasons, I do it for the morals it instills, the sense of community it provides, and the subliminal policing of behavior.  We all knew a kid, I mean the worst behaving character in the neighborhood, who would straighten up and speak reverentially in the presence of an adult—Yes Mam, No Mam, Yes Sir.  That was brought about by communal (norms) pressures on behavior and the liberal use of the rod when he was a child.

As for the miscreants preying on our community, we have to give them up out of self-preservation.   Let the prisons and cemeteries have them.  I know times have changed--but have they really.  The only change I see is the degeneration, deterioration, and collapse of a community from within.  I think we've just gotten lazy with our expectations.  It wasn't always this way.

Yes, Susie, there used to be Black people in America.  Unfortunately, they waited too late to take the asylum back from the inmates.
